To find out which Shopify theme a store uses, paste the store’s address. You get the theme name and a label saying whether it is the theme’s published name or the one the merchant gave their copy, plus the version when the storefront shows it. The answer comes from our last check of the store, dated on screen.

## The theme of one exact storefront

The detector answers one question: which Shopify theme a storefront is built on. It reads the address as you typed it, subdomain included, because shop.brand.com and brand.com can be two storefronts on two different themes.

When we have nothing for the exact address, the page falls back to the root domain and says so on screen, so you never read another storefront’s theme by mistake.

One address returns the theme and the context you need to trust it.

## A store’s Shopify theme, its version and the date we checked

You get the name of the theme the storefront is built on, a label saying where that name came from, and the date we last checked the store.

What comes out:

- **The theme name.** The theme’s published name when the storefront exposes it; otherwise the name this store gave its copy.
- **Where the name came from.** A plain label: the theme’s own name, or the store’s. They are different levels of certainty and are never merged.
- **Version and store state.** The theme version and whether the store was password-protected, each shown only when the storefront exposed it.
- **The date of the check.** When we last looked at the store, printed whenever we have it, including on answers that say we do not know.

The answer is a dated record, not a live scan: a theme swapped after that date still shows the old one.

## Shopify theme detector: three steps

1. **Paste the store address**
Type brand.com or paste the full URL from your browser; the protocol, www and path come off by themselves.
2. **Press Show the theme**
The theme name comes back with a label saying where it came from, and with the store’s raw label beside it when the two differ.
3. **Check the date**
The date of the last check tells you whether you are reading this month’s theme or an older one.

A subdomain store and the main site can run different themes, so paste the exact address you care about.

## Why a Shopify theme has two names

Every Shopify theme has a published name set by its author, like Dawn or Impulse. Merchants also name their own copy, and most do: a duplicate becomes “Copy of Dawn”, a seasonal build something like “Hydra 1.15.0 | Store 1.39.0 (BF backup)”.

The published name tells you which theme to buy, study or rule out. The store’s name shows how this store runs its work, and for many storefronts it is the only name on show.

So the page labels which one you are reading, and keeps the store’s raw label next to the tidied one.

**What the label under the theme name means**

| What you see | What it means |
| ------------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| The theme’s own name | Published with the theme and exposed by the storefront. The name to search a theme store with. |
| The name the theme has in this store | The merchant’s label, tidied of “Copy of” prefixes and version tails. Many storefronts expose nothing else. |
| the store calls it: … | The raw label exactly as the store has it, shown when it differs from the name above. |
| A version next to the name | The theme version the storefront reported at the time of the check. |

## Where the answer comes from, and how old it is

The data is collected in advance. Pressing the button does not open the store or start a new check: it reads the last record we have, with its date.

We revisit stores about once a month, so a theme swapped last week can still show the previous one. The date tells you when to trust the answer and when to look yourself.

“We could not tell what this site runs on” is a common answer. The site did not identify its platform when we checked. That does not mean the store runs on something else: it means we do not know, and the page says so.

## Free version limits

Your first lookup is free, no sign-up. Leave your email for one more, then create a free Spytrend account: it opens this store in the Websites catalog, and paid plans add every store and every filter.

One lookup reads one storefront, so a subdomain store and its main site are two lookups.

## See how a store was built — the theme is the cheapest clue

A theme is the quickest read on how a store was put together. A stock theme with light edits and a heavily customized build point to different budgets, different agencies and different speeds of change.

Take a media buyer studying a competitor’s storefront before building a landing page. The theme says whether the product page layout and upsell blocks come off the shelf, and so whether matching them means buying a theme or hiring a developer.

For a competitor you track, the theme also works as a fingerprint: when its name changes, the storefront was rebuilt, and new offers and creatives usually arrive with it.

One store is one answer. Which other stores run the same theme, and which of them buy traffic, is a job for the Websites section of Spytrend.

## Every store on the same theme, and the ads they run

This page reads one store.

Spytrend is an ad intelligence platform for Facebook and TikTok advertising: a full five-year archive of ads, AI-classified into 33 business categories, with every advertiser assembled into a single card — all ads, pages, domains and countries in one place. Store data sits next to that archive, so a theme name becomes a list of stores and the ads they run.

### Who works this way

Shopify agencies sizing up a rebuild, theme developers checking where their work ended up, and media buyers telling a serious store from a template straight out of the box.

### What Spytrend shows you

- **Stores filtered by theme.** The Websites section takes a theme name and lists the stores running it.
- **And by the apps they run.** Add an app filter to find the stores assembled like the one you started from.
- **The ads those stores run.** A store that advertises is linked to its ads, the pages running them and the countries they run in.

### Why not check them one by one

For a handful of stores, this page is enough. For a category it stops scaling: you would first need the list of stores to check, and a theme name alone does not say which of them are spending.

### How to start

Check the store here first, then open Spytrend and filter the Websites section by that theme to see who else runs it. [Create a free account](https://spytrend.com/register?source=tools&returnTo=%2Fwebsites%3Ffrom%3Dtools&utm_source=tools&utm_medium=free_tool&utm_campaign=shopify-theme-detector): it opens the Websites catalog, and paid plans add every store and every filter.

## FAQ

- **How do I find out what Shopify theme a store is using?**
Paste the store’s address and press Show the theme. You get the theme name, a label saying whether it is the published name or the merchant’s, the version when shown, and the date of the last check.
- **Is that the theme’s real name or the one the merchant gave it?**
The page tells you which. When the storefront exposes the theme’s published name, you see that. Otherwise you get the merchant’s label, tidied of “Copy of” prefixes and version tails, with the raw label next to it.
- **How fresh is the answer?**
As fresh as the date printed with it. We revisit stores about once a month and do not open the store when you press the button, so a theme changed since that date still shows the old one.
- **The store is on Shopify but no theme came back. Why?**
The storefront did not expose a theme name when we checked. That happens when a store is mid-deploy, behind a password, or does not publish the theme name at all.
- **What if the store is not on Shopify?**
The page names the platform the check found instead, such as WooCommerce or Wix. If the site did not identify its platform, the page says we could not tell, which is not the same as “not Shopify”.
- **Can I find other stores using the same theme?**
Yes, in Spytrend. The Websites section filters stores by theme, and the link under the result carries both of the theme’s names, so the store you just checked is on the list too.
- **Is the Shopify theme detector free?**
Yes, to start. Your first lookup is free, no sign-up, and your email unlocks one more, with no password and no card. After that, a free Spytrend account opens this store in the Websites catalog; paid plans add every store and every filter.
